Delivering Award-Winning Mixed Reality Demos

Role: Lead UX Designer | Company: Microsoft | Timeline: 4 Months | Team: 30 Multidisciplinary Group

Problem

Microsoft needed to demonstrate the potential of HoloLens in a way that would secure executive buy-in, attract developers, and prove the value of mixed reality to the public.

Impact

I led design execution for Microsoft’s first public mixed reality demos, directing a 30-person team and designing the core interaction features of the Halo E3 showcase. These were the world’s first hands-on HoloLens experiences, where people could wear the device and see holograms for themselves. The demos set the creative and technical bar for the platform, securing executive backing and shaping public perception of mixed reality.

Key Outcomes

  • Halo E3 mixed reality demo delivered in partnership with 343 Studios

  • 75+ Best of Show awards at E3, most visible MR demo in the industry

  • Secured executive confidence and funding for HoloLens platform

  • Established UX patterns later adopted across first-party MR applications

  • Defined the creative and technical bar for HoloLens showcase experiences
